About Us

 Transforming Lives, Empowering Communities

Sports Impact International (SII) was born from a shared calling to serve the people of El Salvador and surrounding regions through the love of Christ using sports, education, training, and nutrition as tools for transformation. Rooted in a deep commitment to holistic ministry, our programs are designed to strengthen individuals, families, and communities physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

The vision for this work began taking shape in the early 2000s, as Pastor Humberto Alférez Marenco volunteered with international humanitarian organizations. His experiences with groups such as The Samaritan’s Purse and Path Lighter Crusades revealed the power of combining social outreach with the message of the Gospel. In 2007, Humberto became the National Coordinator for Convoy of Hope in El Salvador, and by 2012, he was serving as the El Salvador Director of SOI Sports Outreach Association, a role through which much of the current ministry was established and developed.

For over a decade, this work flourished under the support of international partners, mission teams, and donors who shared a common desire to bring hope to vulnerable populations through faith-centered service. In late 2024, following an unexpected organizational transition, the original ministry structure shifted. To preserve the mission and continue serving the communities that had come to rely on its relationships and programs, a group of long-standing U.S.-based supporters established a new nonprofit: Sports Impact International (SII)

Although the official organization changed, the commitment remained the same. The ministry retained the acronym “SOI” in its local name—Sports Outreach Impact in El Salvador—reflecting the identity by which it had long been known within the country. Today, SII operates under the guidance of a passionate Board of Directors and a dedicated team in El Salvador, led by Humberto Alférez, who continues to serve as Executive Director, bringing decades of pastoral and missionary experience to the organization’s leadership.

Our Core Focus Areas

1. Sports Under the leadership of Daniel Ramírez, Director of Sports, SII runs thriving academies in soccer, basketball, and chess. These programs offer more than just physical activity—they teach discipline, teamwork, and character. Each session integrates Bible teachings and prayer, helping young people grow in their faith alongside their skills.

2. Education and Training Through the “G.U.I.D.E. Me” program (Guide, Uplift, Inspire, Disciple, Educate), led by Director of Education Mirna Alférez, we offer:

• English language instruction
• Craft workshops
• Academic support for children with learning difficulties
• Discipleship and Bible classes
• Leadership and theology courses
• Christian education and school management

3. Nutrition and Child Sponsorship The “G.U.I.D.E. Me” program also includes a feeding initiative that provides nutritious meals to approximately 50 children and youth. This effort is overseen by Hilda Lemus, Administrative and Financial Director, who ensures the smooth and responsible operation of the ministry’s resources and infrastructure.

4. Regional Outreach Our programs have expanded to include outreach in San Marcos de Ocotepeque, Honduras, where we facilitate soccer and chess ministries that promote mentorship, character-building, and spiritual growth.

From its humble beginnings to its current structure, Sports Impact International stands as a testimony to God’s provision and the power of long-term relationships built on faith, service, and mutual respect. We remain deeply grateful to those who have supported the mission from the beginning and look ahead with hope for all that is yet to come.

Thank you for being a part of this journey.
